Description:   Plant-based food requires much less resources, energy and water to produce than meat. As well, vegetarian diets often have health advantages, such as lower cholesterol and blood pressure, and lower risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes. The total direct medical costs of meat consumption in the United States have been estimated to be $30-60 billion a year.
